LucidChart

Having spent many an hour swearing at Visio, Ben Dilts canvas application LucidChart really blew me away. Ben has successfully created a diagraming application that is intuitive and easy to use. Not only that, but he has created on the web (using canvas) so features such as collaboration are also available.

LucidChart

Impressive diagramming

Comments from the Author:

LucidChart uses canvas for all rendering, including many of the UI elements (like the little tools in the toolbox). Uses excanvas for IE8 support. [It also uses] other cool HTML5 features, like drag-and-drop image files onto the page (requires account registration, so we know where to store it).

If you use Visio, then you should really give LucidChart a try. If you don’t use Visio, then check out LucidChart anyway as a great example of how to build a professional canvas application.

Very clever, but seems like an ideal candidate for SVG.

Here is a similar application that appeared before lucidcharts but the guys from canvasdemo “forgot” to present to public : http://diagramo.com.

Alex, you’re wrong. LucidChart has been around A LOT longer than diagramo. LucidChart was released in December of 2008 but LucidChart 2.0 was released in early August.

Hi Darrel

Sorry for the way I put it. I wanted to say that Diagramo was submitted – to canvasdemo -, before LucidChart, but again I can not prove that for sure as I do not know the queue the guys from canvasdemo have.

As for LucidCharts, I do not know about its versions or when did it appear, or if used or not HTML5 ‘ canvas in previous versions.

Anyway, LucidCharts looks like a nice tool. Congrats.

Hi Alex,

Don’t worry – we haven’t forgotten about Diagramo! We will be featuring it shortly. Apologies for the delay – we get a lot of submissions and we are working through them as quickly as we can.

Thanks,
Andi

It also works natively on IE9, for the record.

MockupTiger is a good html5 wireframe, you can host it on your domain, desktop, switch between hand drawn look, change fonts and prototype dashboard mockups with data
