Galactic Plunder
DougX has created a space shoot ‘em up using the HTML5 canvas and audio elements.

Side scrolling shooting goodness
Comments from the Author:
This game, written in JavaScript using the HTML5 Canvas and Audio objects, was developed as a proof of concept that a shooter-style game can be coded without the use of any Flash. The first level of the game is fully implemented, and the second is in development.
Use the arrow keys to move and Z to shoot.

Works great in Chrome 5 on Ubuntu.

It seems somewhat unresponsive and slow under Firefox 3.6 under Ubuntu. Too bad, it’s a good start for a side scrolling shooter, hoping to see more of the game.

Played a little better under Chrome 5, though there were still pauses, and the audio dropouts were more frequent than under Firefox. So it’s probably more the low end system than the browser. (Eee PC 904HD: Ubuntu 9.04, , Intel Celeron M 353, 1GB, GMA 950.)
