Hernan Amiune has created this rather pretty animated harmonograph canvas demo.

A harmonograph is a mechanical apparatus that employs pendulums to create a geometric image. The drawings created typically are Lissajous curves, or related drawings of greater complexity.

Here’s another one, that I wrote. It’s more “physical” in nature, and due to the construction of the pendulums, it produces somewhat less regular patterns.
