I think it's a great game - but not for me, which is a shame, as I was a Civ addict for about 6 years. Unfortunately, the computer opponents appear to be a total nightmare - and quite frankly I haven't got the time/inclination to try and figure out ways around problems created by NPCs. Obviously they can be got around, but equally obvious to me is I don't have the time to spare studying it - I was hoping to pick up as I played - hope was the operative word :P

Had a few friends recommend it to me - although they'd both stopped playing it - funnily enough - for the reasons above. Could really do with some even more noobish level to begin with - it is horribly demoralising to find out that the computer opponent is miles ahead when you think you are doing so well - and this seems to occur game after game.

Again - great game, but possibly only for Civ obsessives who are prepared to put the effort in.

And still, instead of congratulating some great work done, the trolls keep fighting over who is better. Please, do pay attention to the fact that the game wasn't made to show that HTML5 tag is better than using AS3, but to show possibilities that this new technology opens to all developers which are open-minded enough.

Zeljko Freeciv was always a 2d isometric game, and if you say 3d is less code, then go read some books. As you're probably flash fanboy, bitch as much as you want, but flush sucks. How many years Adobe ports it's dumb invention to 64bit linux?! There was a beta but it's gone now. So sorry, HTML5 canvas is now a lot more portable than flash and has less memory leaks and problems in general.

Great work guys, keep showing those flash fanboys that their time will soon be over!

Beside when you tell you client that he will need to pay for 10 developer more than he will actually pay... and that that will take more time to develop and it will still not work on I pad ...

Again too much code and too much time spent on using canvas instead of AS3... beside... this is still a pseudo 3d instead of native 3d... which mens more and more code... and do you really think that some user cares whether he is using flash or html5 ??? in most of cases he dose not even know what html is...

Worst implementation of civilization ever. Don't bother. Though on the technical aspect, congratulations! Please make this a game, it would be a block buster :)

Not a canvas problem, I guess, but playing through the web client does not allow any diplomacy. That means no cease fires, truces, alliances; you will be in the default state of war with all parties. I think that will also drastically curtail any use ( even hostile ) of diplomats and spies. I also suspect other relevant controls ( to the game as a whole ) are missing.

I only played the single person game against 4 computer opponents because I never found another human player available at freeciv.net .

Also be aware that freeciv has been around a looong time, and the fans got VERY good, and do something similar to sniping on EBAY with game turns, even using special adapted clients with devastating effect. You probably want to be in a web-client-only game, if multiplaying using a web client. Also, much of the fan base/ host base got burnt out/ spent out by about 2006.

I do applaud the development of web standards, and canvas specifically, that allows the web client to exist. The rendering looked good to me ( I am using Seamonkey 2.0.3 in Ubuntu Hardy (8.04) on a Dell Inspiron 8200 ).
